{"id":1241,"date":"2016-04-12T19:00:46","date_gmt":"2016-04-13T00:00:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bohemianutopia.com\/?p=1241"},"modified":"2016-04-12T00:50:59","modified_gmt":"2016-04-12T05:50:59","slug":"bathtub-bees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bohemianutopia.com\/?p=1241","title":{"rendered":"Bathtub Bees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The homeowners had been unable to enjoy their back yard, as honeybees had taken up residence in a wall facing their back yard.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bohemianutopia.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Dscn2817.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1247\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1247 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bohemianutopia.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Dscn2817-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Dscn2817\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When evaluating the honeybees, I noticed that the wall had a bathroom on the inside &#8211; with the tub located to the inside of where the bees were entering.\u00a0 When I put my ear to the bathtub, and tapped my knuckles on the tub &#8211; sure enough &#8211; the bees&#8217; buzz was LOUD.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bohemianutopia.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Dscn2818.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1245\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1245 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bohemianutopia.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Dscn2818-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Dscn2818\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, about a month ago &#8211; the homeowner used some sprays on the bees &#8211; greatly knocking down their population, and making the survivors even more defensive of their flight paths.<\/p>\n<p>The siding and inner sheathing was removed &#8211; to reveal that the home-builder had not insulated around the tub and associated plumbing.\u00a0 Bees found their way in, and called it &#8220;home&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bohemianutopia.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Dscn2824.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1242\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1242\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bohemianutopia.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Dscn2824-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Dscn2824\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After removing the comb and bees, I stuffed the open void with fiberglass insulation, then replaced the wood and siding.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bohemianutopia.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Dscn2834.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1246\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-1246\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bohemianutopia.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Dscn2834-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Dscn2834\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The homeowners had been unable to enjoy their back yard, as honeybees had taken up residence in a wall facing their back yard.<\/p>\n<p>When evaluating the honeybees, I noticed that the wall had a bathroom on the inside &#8211; with the tub located to the inside of where the bees were entering.
