{"id":1203,"date":"2016-04-06T18:00:26","date_gmt":"2016-04-06T23:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bohemianutopia.com\/?p=1203"},"modified":"2016-04-12T01:07:50","modified_gmt":"2016-04-12T06:07:50","slug":"roof-top-bee-removal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bohemianutopia.com\/?p=1203","title":{"rendered":"Roof-Top Bee Removal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This client called me to look at the bees last summer.\u00a0 She was not ready at the time to have them removed &#8211; so called me recently with the green-light to proceed.<\/p>\n<p>In the past, someone had sprayed expanding foam into the entrance of the beehive.\u00a0 Unfortunately, honeybees can chew their way through the cured foam.\u00a0 The expanding foam also did damage to the home.\u00a0 It raised the shingles so that the entrance hole was actually larger, and it also allowed rain and moisture to wick in underneath the shingles &#8211; and kept the original wooden shingles wet so that they have been rotting over the years.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bohemianutopia.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Dscn2755_sm.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1192\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1192 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bohemianutopia.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Dscn2755_sm-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Dscn2755_sm\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bohemianutopia.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Dscn2756_sm.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1191\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1191 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bohemianutopia.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Dscn2756_sm-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Dscn2756_sm\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>There were 3 layers of regular modern shingles, and 1 layer of original wooden shingles (that were rotting and had ants living in them)<\/p>\n<p>These bees seemed to be having a bad day, so I wore my suit until almost the end of the removal.\u00a0 The colony had been there for a few years.<\/p>\n<p>Here is what I saw after removing the shingles:\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bohemianutopia.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Dscn2758_sm.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1199\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1199 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bohemianutopia.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Dscn2758_sm-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Dscn2758_sm\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And after removing the wood shingles, and hive was exposed for removal:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bohemianutopia.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Dscn2765_sm.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1197\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1197 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bohemianutopia.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Dscn2765_sm-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Dscn2765_sm\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bohemianutopia.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Dscn2764_sm.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1198\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1198 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bohemianutopia.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Dscn2764_sm-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Dscn2764_sm\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>This particular removal was completed fairly easily &#8211; and ready for her roofing contractor to step in for proper roof repairs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This client called me to look at the bees last summer.
